PHA calls on Minister Harris to Announce Sláintecare Implementation Deadline

The Private Hospitals Association (PHA) has this afternoon welcomed the publication of the long-awaited De Buitléir Report examining private activity in public hospitals.

The Association said it was most encouraging to see the Report also calling for a clear signal from government as to when the private treatment in public hospitals would finally come to an end.

The Private Hospitals Association fully supports the Sláintecare initiative and in particular the need for a planned and phased implementation of the policy change over a pre-agreed time period. We have previously emphasised the need for a clear signal by government as to its intentions and for it to outline a timeline for reform.

In reiterating our support for the proposed Sláintecare initiative, we would also call upon the Minister for Health to set a date for the separation of private hospital care from the public healthcare system in Ireland and to instruct the Sláintecare Implementation Office headed by Laura Magahy, to proceed as this Report has recommended.
