Private Hospitals Association welcomes Minister’s Endoscopy initiative and reactivation of NTPF.

Wednesday July 27,  The Private Hospitals Association (PHA) has welcomed the announcement by Health Minister, Simon Harris, that the National Treatment Purchase Fund (NTPF) is to fast track endoscopy procedures for about 3,000 patients in  the next few months.

Commenting on the announcement PHA Chief Executive Simon Nugent said “Private Hospitals have the facilities and skilled personnel available to treat these patients as soon as the scheme is up and running.  There is no doubt that waiting lists can be quickly tackled in the way that Minister Harris has announced.    Endoscopy is a glaring example of  the sort of procedure that should not, and need not, be delayed for many months.  Quicker diagnosis means quicker treatment for those who need it and faster peace of mind for those patients who get the “all clear”.

“We welcome the fact that Minister Harris has delivered on the Government’s commitment to reactivate the NTPF promptly after the formation of the Government and look forward to discussing with him how the resources allocated to the fund for 2017 can be used as effectively as possible to treat patients who have endured long waits.”
