Private Hospitals Association to host Patient Safety and Quality Summit

Dublin, Monday 6 February 2017.  Over 200 senior staff from private hospitals across Ireland will gather in Lucan for two days this week (7 & 8 February) to plan further improvements in Patient Safety and Quality Standards that reflect international best practice.

The Private Hospitals Association 2017 Patient Safety Summit will hear guest speakers from the worldwide healthcare standards body – Joint Commission International (JCI) – introduce the 6th Edition Accreditation Standards for Hospitals.    The new edition of these global standards, which encourage continuous improvement in hospital care, was published last month and will apply to all participating hospitals from July of this year.   New refinements in the 6th edition of the standard include a focus on antimicrobial stewardship – a global challenge of increasing importance.    Other topics that will be discussed over the two days include best practice in Medication Management, Anaesthesia and Surgical Care, Governance and Leadership and in Information Management.

All members of the Private Hospitals Association (PHA)  are accredited by an internationally recognised accreditation body such as JCI.  Members are surveyed regularly on the standards which encompass more than 1,000 specific requirements.
