The post holder will be responsible for the provision of 20 acute inpatient beds and outpatient consultant adult and later life services. The Post holder will provide clinical leadership to the Team 5 Multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate for this post will play a pivotal role in the review and development of the Hospital’s long-established adult and later life services and relevant programme (s) in ensuring that services are in keeping with best international practice, taking account of workload allied with the implementation of the Mental Health Act 2001.
This development is part of an emerging vision, which continues to see the growth in service provision, through the development of specialist and tertiary mental health treatment units and programmes.
The post holder will be responsible for the development of a comprehensive range of outpatient Adult and Later Life services at Saint John of God Hospital. It is expected that the appointee will develop programmes in areas including mood/anxiety disorders, psychoses and behavioural and psychological symptoms in dementia (BPSDs). The appointee will also be expected to assist in identification of any of the service’s unmet needs in respect of the presenting patient population and suggest proposals as to how these service needs could be met.
The post holder will also have an inpatient and outpatient responsibility and will participate in the consultant out of hours on call rota.
The post holder will be expected to participate in the Clinical Governance structure at the Hospital. Noting that Saint John of God Hospital is a teaching hospital and an interest in teaching and research is essential in this role. This includes direct clinical supervision and line management of any trainees and any speciality doctors for whom he/she is the identified clinical supervisor e.g. senior registrar, registrar and medical student team members.
